OBIEE 11g Release 11.1.1.7 Desktop Tools Available for Download and Audience and Usage

With OBIEE 11g Release 11.1.1.7 release adds number of tools to the list of BI Desktop tools that are available for download. I found it confusing for users/designer which desktop tool should they download/use and what is usage of the tool.

This blog is an attempt to list down the tools available to download, target audience of the desktop software and its usage patterns.

New Addition of Desktop Tools – 11.1.1.7

With OBIEE 11g Release 11.1.1.7, Essbase is a prominent component of Oracle’s BI offerings. To support inclusion of Essbase in this release following desktop tools are added in the list of BI desktop tools that are available for download. These tools are available only when Essbase is chosen as installed component as a part of OBIEE 11.1.1.7 release.

So overall following is the list of tools available to download with the OBIEE 11g Release 11.1.1.7 

Oracle BI for MS Office 

This tool lets you access and run Oracle BI EE analyses directly within your Microsoft Office applications.

Audience – End User

Smart View for MS Office

This tool lets you access and run Oracle BI EE analyses and Essbase/Hyperion Datasets directly within your Microsoft Office applications.

Audience – End User / Ad Hoc User

Oracle Recommendation for MS Office Plug In

While you can also download Oracle Business Intelligence Add-in for Microsoft Office to integrate with Microsoft Office, it is strongly recommended that you download Smart View instead.

Financial Reporting Studio

This tool lets you design and present analytic data graphically. You can design traditional financial report formats such as cash management reports, profit and loss statements, and balance sheets. You can also design nontraditional formats for financial or analytic data that include text and graphics.
